RESEARCHER/ACADEMIC
I have a doctorate (PhD) and three master's degrees, plus many other postgraduate and graduate qualifications. I am intending to commence a second doctorate in 2025. Heoi anō, e mihi ana ahau ki te Matua nui i te rangi mō āna manaakitanga.
I have been a lecturer at Auckland University of Technology and Massey University. I have supervised both doctoral and master's students to completion. I supervised the PhD thesis (2024) of Dr Mamae Takerei. She is the renowned Kīngitanga and Tainui historian.
In 2017 I was appointed to the Registration Panel of the Education Council of Aotearoa New Zealand (now the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand). A couple of years later the Hon Chris Hipkins (then Minister of Education) appointed me to the Competency Authority of the Teaching Council.
I have been involved in various research projects in academia. Outside of academia, I have conducted research for iwi, government and NGOs. For example, I was Senior Māori Research Insights Advisor at Evidence Based Policing Centre, NZ Police National Headquarters. Here is one of my research reports while at Police:

Although I am no longer in academia, I continue to publish in academic journals. Here is a journal article I co-authored in 2024:
